Urgent Advisory: How to Identify and Defend Against Digital Arrest Scams

Frauds masquerading as law enforcement or telecom officials threatening digital arrest are on the rise. Learn the telltale signs and official reporting channels.

Law enforcement authorities in India never conduct court hearings or place individuals under digital arrest over WhatsApp or Skype video calls. Key Red Flags: 1. Threatening immediate police arrest or seizure of assets over a video call. 2. Demanding payment to a 'temporary verification account'. 3. Sending forged arrest warrants stamped with counterfeit CBI or Police badges. What to do: - Disconnect the call immediately. - Never transfer funds or share banking OTPs. - Report the incident immediately to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in or call helpline 1930.
